Get your glow on this winter!

Summer has now moved seamlessly into Autumn and with the change of seasons comes the need to tweak your skincare regime.   To help you make the adjustments we've put together some hints, tips and ideas on how to help you achieve healthy, happy skin.

At Face Matters our range of 5 anti-ageing collagen boosting products are formulated using 100% organic silicon blended with carefully selected botanical oils, which together stimulate the production of collagen and elastin – both of which are reduced as your skin ages.   The results of this unique formula have been proven in our extensive skin trials.

So, how best to incorporate Face Matters into your daily routine?

Cleanse but ditch the soap!   Start and finish each day with our ANYTIME CLEANSER a seriously effective foaming cleanser.  The surface of your skin will be left feeling revitalised without any tautness.  With a super gentle sugar-based foamer, aloe to cool, argan to nourish, geranium to soothe, lemon which is a natural antiseptic and mandarin to stimulate the circulation, and of course a shot of that all important collagen-boosting organic silicon.

Exfoliate with an oil-based scrub.  The summer sun and chlorine may have left your skin feeling dry and flaky.   Oil based scrubs are wonderful because they exfoliate and hydrate simultaneously but they don’t strip the skin.  If granular scrubs are not your thing our 24/7BALM multi-tasks as an effective exfoliant when used with the enclosed muslin cloth.  Skin will feel cleansed, incredibly soft and look radiant – with the added boost of  collagen stimulating mineral Si.

Switch from lotion to cream.  As the air becomes drier your skin needs a thicker moisturiser.  Creams provide a stronger oily barrier which means they both reduce water loss from the outer layer of skin and provide hydration to this layer at the same time. Our super effective MORNING MOISTURISER is light and soothing, non-greasy and absorbs quickly into the skin, it also acts as a perfect base for make-up. Rich in beta-carotene, essential fatty acids, oleic and linoleic acids, plus skin-loving vitamins A and E, phytic acid, vitamin B complex to stimulate cell regeneration and replenishing squalene for a naturally younger looking fresher GLOW!

Saving the best till last?  Fast becoming the hero product of the range is the EVENING ELIXIR your bedtime essential for healthy skin.  Apply a drop or two into your hand and massage gently on thoroughly cleansed skin.  With a potent blend of botanical ingredients, rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9, vitamin E and essential fatty acids (essential for the retention and enhancement of skin moisture), Vitamin A to aid cell regeneration and GLA, it will revitalise, restore and replenish ageing skin, plus giving it that all important collagen stimulating boost.  Once tried can’t live without – that’s a promise!

Central heating and stepping from hot indoor to cold outdoor temperatures really does dehydrate and take it’s toll; on ageing skin particularly.  This is when investing in the collagen stimulating boost ALL DAY SPRITZ pays dividends.  Spray into palm of hand and press firmly into the face and neck morning and evening after cleansing.  Re-spritz during the day as and when skin begins to feel fatigued and dehydrated to revitalise the complexion.  The skin very quickly starts to show a healthier tone and texture and will look fresher, smoother and much firmer.

As well as being truly effective, the range smells divine too, Sally spent 18 months working on the blending of the botanical oils to get the scent just right….Rose, Jasmine, Geranium, Mandarin and Lemon…

Be happy. Be you.

What's in your holiday make-up bag?

We're well and truly immersed in the holiday season now, whether opting for the increasingly popular staycation or travelling to more (guaranteed) warmer climes, the team at Face Matters loves prepping for their getaways.   We obviously do try very hard not to overpack (!) with clothes, make-up and toiletries, but let's face it more often than not we come home with around half of our clothes unworn and all the make-up we think we'll wear when we go out for dinner, goes untouched!

A great tip we picked up was to collect samples of product throughout the year =- per

So ladies, to help you pick and pack the real summer essentials in your make-up bag, we've selected our top can't-travel-without products….

Hair…as much as we love the mermaid tousled look, underneath you are tackling  mass of tangled locks.  In a recent feature on ‘the brushes you CAN use on wet hair’, The Daily Mail awarded (The Wet Brush) an impressive 5/5, due to its unrivalled knot-eliminating skills. ‘This brush has thin and flexible bristles designed to glide through any hair type and comb out tangles effortlessly and painlessly. It can be used on wet or dry hair and the bristles bend as you brush, then bounce back, eliminating breakage. - See more at: https://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/the-wet-brush  and from around £8.99 it's pretty affordable.

Skincare..well here we have to suggest our very own Face Matters Evening Elixir, All Day Spritz and 24/7 Balm all worth their suitcase space in gold…The Spritz is your perfect in-flight travel companion to refresh, moisten and revitalise, the 24/7 Balm is the absolute holiday essential; it'll soften hard heels, elbows, lips, perfect  treat for dry ends on holiday hair and if you've parched your skin in the sun (which obviously you shouldn't!) leave on overnight for a super-duper nourishing treatment.

Make-up - it's amazing how quickly our skin gets that holiday glow and the normal foundation, powders and bronzers seem to not quite be right.  So we'd suggest Laura Mercier's fail-safe Tinted Moisturiserperfect for all skin types and provides ideal protection from both UVA and UVB rays with an SPF 20. The sheer, lightweight moisturiser adds a hint of colour that can be used in place of foundation for a natural appearance and finish with a dusting of Hoola Bronzer from Benefit - well it is the UKs No1 selling bronzer and we LOVE it!

Fragrance….for us, Chanel's, summery fresh scents like Chance Eau Fraiche is just perfectA fresh.  The unexpected floral bursts with a lightness and zest as notes of citrus, Water Hyacinth and Jasmine Absolute are energized with woody notes of Amber of Patchouli and Fresh Vetiver….takes us straight to the Riviera….!

And don't forget….if you buy 1 All Day Spritz and 1 Evening Elixir from the Face Matters range this summer you will get a stunning pair of Roberto Cavailli sunglasses to perch on your sun kissed nose and finish off your summer look.  Simply enter code Shades01 at the checkout when prompted.

Happy Holidays

Don't forget the sunblock.

Eat well, feel great.

It is becoming easier and easier to eat well and more cleanly nowadays, with easy to follow, inspiring recipes from a whole host of cooks, chefs, bloggers and general foodies who want to share their ideas with us - food porn is everywhere!

At Face Matters we just love browsing the web, the weekend supplements and monthly magazines for dishes that make us dash out to the supermarket and stock up on grains, seeds, greens and couscous by the bucket load!

The effects of a good clean diet on our skin and complexion have always been well documented, we we were always told as children that if we eat sweets we'll come out in spots….Fact is there are way more things in our diet that could lead to our skin having an outbreak.  And avoiding too many of the bad things will lead to a clearer complexion, brighter eyes, shinier hair and generally a better mood (something which can of course be affected if we aren't looking our best on the outside, so not feeling our best on the inside).  As the lovely Ella Woodward - Deliciosuly Ella - says, it's about counting goodness, not calories and not to focus on deprivation.  What a great way of looking at it.

A few ideas here, handpicked by the Face Matters team that we know will make your mouths water!

Snack

Medjool Dates stuffed with nut butter - Deliciously Ella

Soooo simple, the perfect go-to snack for an instant but lasting energy boost.  You need:

12 Medjool Dates
12 teaspoons of not butter.
Raw cacao sprinkling

Cut open the dates and remove the stones, place a small spoonful of not butter and a sprinkling of the raw cacao, push the dates back together, place in the fridge to firm up et voila!

Lunch

Quinoa & Hazelnut Salad - Deliciously Ella for Raw Press

A perfect summer salad, easy to knock up with slow release engery and

Ingredients

50g Blanched Hazelnuts
50g mixed red and white quinoa
100g cucumber
50g Pomegranates
Juice of 1/2 lemon
2 tbsp argan oil
Pink of Salt
Pinch of pepper

Cover the quinoa with boiling water in a saucepan along with the lemon juice and a pinch of salt.  Allow to boil for 12 minutes or until the water has been absorbed.  While the quinoa cooks, place the hazelnuts on a baking tray and place in 200c oven for 8-10 minutes.  Chop the cucumber into quarters, then into eighths.  Slice out the wet, seedy central part and slice into thin pieces.  Allow the quinoa to cool before stiring in the argan oil, pomegranates, chopped cucumber and hazelnuts along with the salt and pepper to taste!  Ooooh yes please!

Something sweet?

Hazelnut chocolate caramels. - Amelia Freer Eat Nourish Glow

Ingredients:
14 small medjool dates, pitted
75ml coconut milk
75ml melted coconut oil
¼ tsp Maldon sea salt, plus sea salt flakes for sprinkling
½ tsp vanilla powder
12 raw hazelnuts
Coconut flour, for dusting

Chocolate coating:
25g cocoa powder
25g coconut oil
2 tbsp coconut crystals
Soak the dates in a bowl of hot water for 20 minutes, then drain and put them into a blender with the coconut milk, coconut oil, salt and vanilla powder.
Blend into a smooth paste, then transfer to a freezerproof container and freeze for 1 hour.
Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper. Roll a hazelnut in the caramel mixture until it’s coated – it’s messy and the balls won’t be a perfect shape but this doesn’t matter, just keep using teaspoons to handle the caramel. Dust with a little coconut flour so the balls don’t stick together and put onto the lined baking tray. Repeat until all the mixture is used up, then put the tray into the freezer and freeze for 3 hours.
While the nuts are freezing, make the chocolate coating. Put all the ingredients for the coating in a pan and set over a low heat, stirring until melted. Remove from the heat and leave the mixture to cool a little until it is thick enough to drizzle over the caramel balls.
Pour the coating over the caramel balls, sprinkle a little salt over each, then pop back into the freezer for 30 minutes.
Makes 12 caramels

However you try to improve your well-being, keep guzzling that water, get plenty of sleep and try to do at least 30 mins of exercise every day.
See you soon x

Well hello spring, we’ve been longingly expecting you.

I think we can just about pack away the winter wardrobe, spring flowers are blooming, the sun is peeking out and warming up and we've finally been able to stop eating the left over Easter chocolate for breakfast! So now is a good time to spring clean your skincare.  We’ve handpicked a selection of our tips and ideas, not just for your skin but your entire body and well-being as we move from one season to the next.
Exfoliate - at least once a week…
In spring you may find your skin becomes oilier, the best way to keep your skin tip top in terms of fresh looking and blemish free is to exfoliate:
Prepare the skin with a gentle exfoliator to draw out any impurities and refine the skin texture. Our 24/7 Balm £55 is truly brilliant exfoliant, use gently with the enclosed muslin cloth and it will decongest your skin leaving it visibly brighter and healthier.

Minimal make-up look
As it gets warmer the dewy looking, minimal make-up look is what works best.  You can achieve this with a subtle application of a good fake tan finished off with a tinted moisturiser (we love Laura Mercier).  Why not try some of our favourite lip balm from By Terry..not only does it smell good enough to eat (it's the roses) but it also leaves your skin with a pretty pink tint and feeling suitably soft.

Hydrate inside and out…..
It’s an age-old rule, but please do remember to drink plenty of water all year round, the more dehydrated you are, the duller your complexion.  Also try to start the day with glass of cooled boiled water with a slice of lemon – once you get into the swing of these little tips it’ll become second nature and not doing it will seem stranger.

Sleep tight, sleep right
Nowadays there are so many statistics flying around about how many of us don’t get a good, solid nights sleep, over half of us suffer at some stage or other with sleep problems. With the evenings staying lighter and the sun appearing earlier in the mornings it can be even more difficult to get all the sleep you need.  Why don’t you try unwinding in a warm bath either with some essential oils such as rose and which are known for their soothing properties, or with Epsom Salts – I swear by these. They’re particularly good if you’re following a fitness regime too, they work wonders on muscles and joints as well as general well-being.  We love Eco Bath….natural, organic and work a treat.

International Woman's Day…What is it and what will you be doing?

What is International Woman's Day…?  Well, it is a marked and internationally celebrated day of the year when we can do our bit to ensure that the future for women and girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding, this day is 8th March.  It works to gain more rewarding roles for women in business, an increase in the growth of women owned businesses and a greater awareness of women's equality.

It's something that's been observed since the early 1900s when more and more women were becoming more vocal and active in campaigning for change.  Now International Women's Day has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike.

Women's organisations and governments around the world have also observed IWD annually on 8 March by holding large-scale events that honour women's advancement and while diligently reminding of the continued vigilance and action required to ensure that women's equality is gained and maintained in all aspects of life.

At Face Matters Skincare we believe strongly in the empowerment of women and women being listened to and recognised as much as they deserve to in the around the world.   We are also proud to donate a % of every sale on every product in our range to the women's charity Refuge this will be a continual donation from us and will increase as the company grows.

To mark IWD this year we are involved in a great event at Fenwick Bond Street, (where Face Matters is stocked) it will be called Empowering Women.  There will be one event on Thursday 5th March from 5-9pm and then the second on Friday 6th March 2-6pm.  If you are in London and near Fenwick why not book in for your it's only £15 which is then redeemable against product, for this you get a mini facial from us, make-over also there will be a hairstylist on hand too to freshen up your hair before you have your photo taken by our professional photographer - what do you think?

We want you to look and feel even more fabulous.

Hope to see you there…..
